Up cycle and Recycle – easy things we can all do to reduce-reuse-recycle-re-purpose. The easiest thing you can do…don’t buy stuff you don’t need! Shop at home first!

KEY NOTES: A Blog Project

A Blog Project. A new adventure! Writing! Creativity! My first reaction, when I discovered this was one of the graded projects for Business Communication was, “This is going to be great! Now I’m going to be able to know how to do that!”. My nephews and nieces, who have a very good opinion of me generally, think I really need to buff up my tech skills, ditch the clamshell cell phone for a new model, and “Please, A.K.", = Aunt Karen (I don’t know when I was issued my text messaging shortcut handle), “….please get connected to social media somehow so we can track you down when it’s convenient for us.” That’s what I heard. And I took a step back and decided not to do it. A cell phone # and an email address are more than enough, and I write a letter to send through snail mail more than twice a year. They’re covered.

So, back to the Blog Project, now that I’ve shaken out my nerves in my first paragraph, there’s nothing more to be done but to jump in and get started. I’ll push to the back of my mind while writing, that in addition to my classmates, my words could be read by thousands…O.K., I’m with you already, that number is spectacularly small for this conversation! And that only the people who really know I am writing a blog will even find me…naïve…O.K., I’m with you there too…

...I’m back – I took a break to mull those first two paragraphs over to consider my approach. I’ve realized that all I need to do is to follow the system that my Blog topic author Peter Urs Bender devised for himself and his audiences. A great deal of his public speaking and presenting skills can be adapted to this adventure just as easily. I realize that I can choose to follow that system…“Be positive about presenting…Be enthusiastic. Be open minded. Be persistent…Don’t apologize” (Bender, 1991, p. 36) and then he got me with this quote often associated with the German writer, Goethe. “Whatever you can do, or dream you can…begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” What can I do now, but just begin and see where this goes…
